Funeral Services for Mrs. Annie P. Williams, age 86 of Ashland, will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Harold McCain officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the Clay County Nursing Home. She grew up in the Millerville Area and was a Class of 1955 graduate of Bibb Graves High School. She worked as a seamstress for Russell Mills in Alexander City for several years before marrying her sweetheart, Melvin Donald in 1958. Due to his military service, they lived in Texas for a brief time before moving back to Clay County, where she worked for Southland until 1975. Mrs. Williams began her own business ran out of her home, Annie’s Daycare for around 30 years. She helped raise generations of kids, and was known respectively as Mrs. Annie. She was also a foster parent for 25 years. Mrs. Annie was also found of animals, raising chickens, turkeys, pheasants, guineas, rabbits, ducks and more. She especially loved her cats, and her weenie dog, “Shine”. Mrs. Annie could often be found drinking coffee while doing her crossword puzzles and word search books, or sitting on the porch watching the bug zapper and listening to her police scanner. She enjoyed shopping at antique flea markets, collected antique glassware and Vaseline glass, and had a yard full of flowers all the time, especially her hydrangeas. Mrs. Annie was described as a sassy and feisty woman, but was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Mrs. Williams is survived by four daughters: Brenda Williams Harris (Dwight) of Ashland, Janet Williams Hallmark (Tim) of Goodwater, Cindy Jo Brown (Jacky), and Tammy Gortney (Vic), both of Ashland; four sons: Ellis Williams of Opelika, Ronald Williams, Marty Williams, and Kevin Williams, all of Ashland; 10 grandchildren: Erin Williams, Don Triplett, Reina Brown, John David Brown, Zoe Williams, Ava Williams, Shawnee Hill (Cody), Ethan Gortney, Mason Gortney, and Jacky Brown Jr. (Jesse); 6 great-grandchildren: Heath and Mackenzie Craft, Sawyer and Cooper Weathington, and Jerrhett and Victoria Hill; one sister, Sara Hammond of Ashland; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Reuben J. and Hattie McCain Prickett; her husband, Melvin Donald “Fix-It” Williams; four sisters: Ruby Maples, Frances Berry, Genelle Harden, and Polly Fielding; and three brothers: Johnny Pricket, Jakie Prickett, and James “Shorty” Prickett.

Don Triplett, John David Brown, Ethan Gortney, Mason Gortney, Vic Gortney, and Reina Brown will serve as pallbearers.

Her visitation will take place on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 12:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
