Annie Maurine West Howell Annie Maurine West Howell passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in Decatur, Alabama, where she had resided for the past year.

Maurine married the love of her life, Bill, and together they raised two children. Bill farmed with Maurine beside him. Later, he was employed at Babcock & Wilcox in West Point. Mississippi, where he was working at the time of his death. Bill left her too soon and at forty-nine, Maurine began to reinvent herself by completing the courses required to become a cosmetologist and instructor at Vaughn’s Beauty College in Aberdeen, Mississippi, where she worked into her seventies.

Maurine enjoyed traveling and during her service through the Pilot Club of Aberdeen and her work at Vaughn’s, she traveled extensively. Her trip to the Holy Land was one of the highlights of her life. Maurine also traveled on Senior Adult trips with her son-in-law Wayne and was a joy to him and others.
Maurine’s love for God and her church was the center of her life. In her later years, she served at Becker Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and helped her fellow members in need with meals, visits, and prayers. Maurine also served others in various nursing homes with visits and devotionals. She considered it a privilege and responsibility to serve on the board of Howell Cemetery in the Athens Community.

Maurine loved her neighbors and community. Whether she was carrying cookies to a shut-in, helping to organize a yard sale to pay off a church debt, or listening to the troubles of others, she invested her whole being.

Maurine loved her family. She carried the latest photographs of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in her Bible to share with others when occasions arose. She surrounded herself with their photos at home and any visitors were sure to hear about her family’s latest accomplishments.

Thank you to all who invested in her. From those who farmed the land, mowed the yard, brought her meals, made repairs to her home, watched to see if she and the dogs made it back from their daily walk, her family thanks you. Her desire was to remain in her home for as long as possible and all of you helped that dream come true. Heaven rejoiced in her arrival, and she finally saw her Bill and her son Glenn again.

Maurine is survived by her daughter, Peggy Howell Baggett (Wayne); daughter-in-law, Sarah Morgan Howell; grandchildren Emily Baggett Hollingsworth (Ryan), Jeremy Wayne Baggett (Amanda), and Joseph Morgan Howell, (Tressie); Sister, Shelby Westbrook; grandchildren, Elijah Allen Prater, Brantley Wyatt Baggett, Adley Morgan Howell, and Trewett Thayer Howell.

Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Glenn Howell; son, Willie Glenn Howell, Jr.; parents, Will Ed and Rena Leeolen West; brother, William West; Sister, Joyce West Doster.
