Annette Shingler passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. She was born August 28, 1937, to George and Doris Houck in Mechanicsburg, PA, where she grew up. Her two siblings, Jack and Phyllis preceded her in death. Annette went to Oberlin College and married the love of her life, Rick Shingler in 1958. She graduated with a degree in Music in 1958. Annette and Rick moved to Huntsville in 1959. Annette was a music teacher at Westlawn Middle School, Stone Middle School, UAH, and finally at Grissom High School where she worked until she retired in 1999. She was active in the local theater and music communities and often sang with orchestra. Annette was active at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the choir and congregation. She lived in Huntsville until 1993, Madison until 2020, and most recently lived at Brookdale Jones Farm.

Annette was passionate about music and all things children. She and Rick volunteered in the community and Annette loved to go to the local elementary schools and read to the children. She enjoyed time with family, friends, book club, and church.

Annette is survived by her daughter, Laura Moore and husband, Chris; grandsons, Justin Collier and his significant other, Randi Knox, from Omaha, NE, Ries Collier and wife, Katherine, of Boston, MA, Jacob Moore of Oahu, HI, and Nicolas Moore and wife, Ashley, of Virginia Beach, VA; and great-granddaughter, Lily Grace.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 1 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 301 Drake Ave. SE, Huntsville, AL 35802.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Free2Teach, 3054 Leeman Feery Rd. SW Suite F, Huntsville, AL 35801.
