Funeral Services for Mrs. Ann Lumpkin, age 73 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Oak Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Nelson and Bro. Billy East officiating. She will lie in state for one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Lumpkin passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Clay County Nursing Home. Born in Lineville, she graduated from Wuerzburg American High school in Germany in 1966. Mrs. Lumpkin traveled all across the United States with her former husband while he was in the United States Army. She was a devoted wife, caretaker and always there for her family. Mrs. Lumpkin worked at the Piggly Wiggly for many years, and was a homemaker throughout her life. She loved her family, church and was a selfless, loving person to all. She was known as the “cake lady” by many for the delicious lemon pound cakes and peanut butter cookies that she made for her church fundraisers. Mrs. Lumpkin was what you called a “remembrance gardener”. Her and her husband, Jim, would keep graves clean and neat for people that didn’t have someone to do it for them, and often placed flowers for them too. They also enjoyed attending gospel singings together. Mrs. Lumpkin was a member of Candler Mt. Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her husband of 25 years, James W. “Jim” Lumpkin of Lineville, her daughter, Delores Kennedy (Tim) of Acworth, GA, three stepdaughters, Kelly Baker (Brent) of Alexander City, Amber Gardener (Lynn) of Kellyton and Hollie Lumpkin of Goodwater, her son, Danny Barker (Martha) of Lineville, her step son, Shane Lumpkin (Jamie) of Goodwater, three grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Liz Horn of Alabaster and Sharon McVay (Stanley) of Ashland, her brother, Lloyd Smith, Jr. (Martha) of Eastaboga, numerous nieces, nephews and extended, blended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Levell Smith, Sr. and Flora Mai O’Neal, her sister, Pat Hanners and her brother, James O’Neal.
Pallbearers will be, Drew Kennedy, Fraser McNatt, Randy Hanners, Travis Barker, Scott Futral, Charles Tankersley and Jamie McCollough.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and until 12:00 P.M. Monday morning.
