Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Bynum, age 92, of Arab, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024 at her home.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Buck Bynum; her sister, Norma Beatrice Knight Brown; brother, Hershel V. Knight; son, Richard Bynum; nephew, Robert Judson Sproul and niece, Kay Knight Worthington.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Bronwyn Poole (Scott); grandson, Brandon Bynum; great grandchildren, Carson Pool, Kelsey Poole McCoy (Braedy) and Zoey Poole Walers, (Alex); great great granddaughter, Harper Ann McCoy; niece Phyllis Sproul Monteith of North Carolina; and many great nieces and nephews.
Ann was born on April 21, 1932 in Gadsden to the late Robert Frank Knight and Maud Thomas Knight of Gadsden, Alabama. She married the love of her life, Wilburn E. “Bunk” Bynum of Gadsden on August 21, 1948, and they had one son. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, and trying new recipes. She was also a seamstress and painter.
Throughout Buck’s career they lived in several towns in Alabama, including Albertville and Arab, El Paso, Texas, and then settled in Macon, Georgia in 1976. They returned to Arab in 2003 to be near their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Together, Buck and Ann loved listening to gospel music and gardening. They also enjoyed traveling with various senior tour organizations.
Ann was a faithful Christian. She loved reading her Bible and playing hymns by ear on her organ. She was a member of Arab First Baptist Church.
She was devoted to her husband and cared for him until his death in 2020.
The family is especially grateful for Anita Martin, Ann’s caregiver. She was compassionately dedicated to Ann, and her family, over the last three years.
There will be a graveside service on Sunday, October 13, at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Gadsden, AL at 2pm. Arrangement provided by Arab Heritage memorial Chapel.
