Mr. Montgomery was a 1969 graduate of Lawrence County High School, where he was an all-county football player and team captain as a senior. He was an invited walk-on to the freshman football team at Auburn University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1974. “Coach Andy” worked as a teacher at Lawrence County High School from 1974 until his retirement in 1998, coaching football, baseball, and basketball for 19 years. A lifelong Auburn sports fan, he attended 67 consecutive Auburn-Alabama football games from 1957 through 2023. He was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather, and in his retirement his greatest joy was sharing his love of music and sports with his family.

Mr. Montgomery professed faith in Christ at age nine and was a faithful 63-year member of Moulton First United Methodist Church, where he sang with the church’s bluegrass band. Fondly remembered for his singing at school assemblies and pep rallies, he also recorded three albums with his son, Robert.
