Andy Frank Murphy, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023 at his home in Shannon after a brief illness. Andy lived his entire life in Shannon. He was born March 13, l946 in Tupelo to the late Marvin Murphy and Hazel Stewart Murphy. A 1964 graduate of Shannon High School, Andy worked his whole life as a mechanic, spending much of his working life with Grady Jones Co. repairing forklifts and with Marshall Durbin Co. Andy was a quiet, simple man who was best known as a great mechanic with a strong work ethic. He enjoyed keeping his yard perfectly kept, taking pride in his “at home” mechanic shop and watching NASCAR. Andy loved cats and, at his death, had 3 house cats and 5 outside cats that he dearly loved. Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Murphy and his parents, Marvin and Hazel.

A service celebrating his earthly pilgrimage and his strong spiritual faith will be held at 6 PM, Monday, October 23, 2023 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Visitation from 4 PM-service time. A private burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, a place sacred to him and where he spent much time over his life helping to take care of. Andy is survived by his only son, Tim Murphy (Lisa) of Shannon and a brother, Tommy Murphy (Leigh) of Jackson and Tupelo and his family, 5 grandchildren, Anna Shaw, Brooklin McKnight, Aliza Murphy, Katelyn Murphy, Tyler Murphy and one on the way; two grandchildren, Ashton and Colton.
