Dr. Ana Maria Hernandez  de Lopez

Dr. Ana María Hernández de López, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2021. A native of Montejo de Arévalo (Segovia), Spain, and naturalized American citizen in 1983, she was Professor Emerita of Foreign Languages at Mississippi State University before retirement in 2005. Dr. López authored and edited professional books and articles. She was the recipient of several teaching and research awards at Mississippi State University. Her professional achievements also included organizing two international symposia.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Mariano López, her sons Cándido (Robin) and Teddy, and her grandson Ryan who all reside in the United States. In Spain, she is survived by her brothers, Tanis (Margarita) and Foro (Marisol), sister Transi, sister-in-law Crucita, and numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her brothers Pedro (Alejandra) and Josemari.

The family is truly thankful to OCH, Kindred Hospice, Kindred at Home, and Generations Care with special recognition once more to these individuals who took care of Ana day and night for four years: Felice Martin, Verna Stalling, Shirley Townsel, and Polly Billups.

30 Catholic Gregorian Masses will be forthcoming. A dedicated mass is set for November 27, 2021 in Dr. López’s hometown in Spain.

Visitation will take place Monday, November 22, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 11:00 a.m.-noon followed by the funeral mass. Interment will be at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. The family requests those attending to keep social distance and wear a mask.
