Amy Wright Ricks – Obituary

Amy Wright Ricks, 93, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully at her home May 21, 2018 at 11:15 am.  Born Amy Louise Wright in Oxford, MS, May 16, 1925 to David and Amy Wright (Amy Jane Flurry), Amy graduated from Booneville High School with honors in 1943.  She continued to distinguish herself while attending Florence State Teachers College where she graduated with numerous honors in 1947. While attending Florence State, Amy met Cammack Ricks who was attending Florence State on the GI Bill after serving in the Navy during WWII.  They were wed June 10, 1947 in Florence, Alabama.  The couple moved to Knoxville where Cammack earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT, and Amy taught Junior and Senior English at Alcoa High School.  The couple moved to Huntsville in 1952 where Cammack worked for the US Army.  They raised three boys in Huntsville.  Amy was quite civic minded and loved the arts.  She served with the Huntsville Symphony in various roles.  She was Co-chair of the organizing committee for the Huntsville Literary Association, and the first issue of POEM was dedicated to Amy.  She served in several leadership and organizing positions with the Little Theater, the Music Appreciation Club, the Huntsville Antique Club, Cub Scouts, and at the First Presbyterian Church as President of the Women of the Church, Deaconess, and Elder.

Amy is survived by her husband of 71 years, Mr. Earl Cammack Ricks; sons, Henry (Shelia), David Wright (Polly), Timothy (Gayle); grandchildren, Kate, Jesse, Jill (John), Ragan (Dan), Emily (Steven), Ivy (Matt), William (Christina); great-grandson, Matthew;  great-granddaughters, Bella, Taylor, Anna Cleveland; nieces, Sandy (Joe), Susy, Jennifer (Mike), Doranne (Walt), Mary; nephews, Charlie (Donna), David Bell (Tan), John Walker (Spring);  and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00pm followed by a memorial service on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 149 Old Big Cove Road, Brownsboro, Alabama 35741

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 149 Old Big Cove Road, Brownsboro, Alabama 35741.
