Colbert County’s American Legion Post #31 is excited to have been informed that the
Shoals Elks Lodge will again assist Legion Post #31 in providing gift bags for Veterans who
are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and those who are under hospice care.
The drive to secure these bags is beginning now.

During the past year, with the help of the Shoals Elks Lodge, and with corporate sponsors,
approximately 250 veterans in need were gifted through this program sponsored by
American Legion Post #31. The public is invited and requested to help again this year with
this worthwhile project, one that has brought comfort and caring to veterans who might not
otherwise receive gifts from family and loved ones.

Post # 31 is kicking off the drive ahead of Memorial Day and will be gathering items to
include in this year’s gift bags, which will be distributed throughout the year in Colbert,
Franklin, and Lauderdale Counties, and will culminate with Christmas gift-giving. Men’s
white socks (size adult 8-12) and men’s white tee shirts (size XL) are needed. Individuals
and groups who wish to help may drop these items off at Emily Cooper Studio and Art
Supply, located at 108 North Main Street, Tuscumbia, next door to the Church of Christ
Annex. Open hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 – 4:00.

While there, check out the extensive selection of art supplies and consider the art lessons
offered. Also visit Oak and Ivy and Threads at 104 North Main Street. Both shops are
tenants of the American Legion Post Hall Building and are supporters of Shoals area
Veterans and Veterans’ aid projects.

For further information or to speak to someone about additional ways to help, call Post
Commander Doug Hargett at 256-483-0610.
