Alton Eldridge Tipps, age 68 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on April 5, 1953, to the late Robert Alton and Mary Elizabeth (Carson) Tipps. He coached girls’ basketball for twenty-two seasons, eighteen of those at Broadview Elementary School and four at Huntland School. Al enjoyed cooking and grilling as well as judging cooking competitions on the local and state level for over ten years. He and his late wife, Lisa, served as foster parents for eight years. Al was an avid sports fan, especially cheering for the Tennessee Lady Vols. He was a member of the Winchester Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Matney Tipps. Al is survived by his daughter, Jeni (Jim) Hardy of Estill Springs; son, Ricky Tipps of Winchester; grandchildren, Jordyn, Veronica, Holly, Izzy (Cody), David Charles, Mackenzie, Zachary, Olivia, and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Riley, Riayn, Destin, and Anne; siblings, Sandra (Don) Shivers, Brenda (Jim) Terry, and Winston (LeAnn) Tipps; and many nieces, nephews, foster children, and honorary kids. Visitation with family and friends will be from 4-8 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
