Althera “Ikey” H. Hyde, age 80, loving mother of two, and adoring wife to husband Joe. M.

Hyde married 55 years. Ikey passed away late on August 22, 2022, surrounded by family. Ikey

was born in 1942 in a small county in western Georgia with four siblings. Ikey enjoyed bowling,

traveling, and playing at casinos with Joe and her family. She met her husband Joe in 1967 while

working as a salesperson at Monroe’s store downtown Huntsville. They say it was love at first

“shock.” Ikey shocked Joe on the arm to get his attention. They fell instantly in love and knew

they both shared a passion for family and began a family as soon as possible. She was generous,

loving, funny, and kind as a mother. She spoiled all 5 grandchildren: Aaron, Ryane, Sarah,

Matthew, and John. Ikey and Joe fulfilled a lifetime of supporting different organizations

around Alabama: delivering food with Meals on Wheels, feeding the homeless at Downtown

Rescue Mission, sponsoring several children each Christmas with Salvation Army’ Angel Tree,

and continued patronage to Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega. She will be greatly

missed by her family, friends, and those who know her.

Ikey is survived by her husband, daughter Kelly D. Bragg and son-in-law Phillip Bragg. There will

be a family service on August 25, 2022, at 2 pm, at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Presbyterian Home for Children at https://www.phfc.org
