Almus Larry Dean, age 89, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, took one last hop and returned to base. Do not mourn that which is lost. Instead rejoice in what you enjoyed.
He was born on March 19, 1935, in Durham, North Carolina to Almus Lester Dean and Elizabeth Wilson Dean.
Almus had twenty years of Military service as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp, two tours of Vietnam. He got his associate in arts degree from Brewer State Junior College in Fayette, Alabama June 02, 1977. He retired from West Alabama Mental Health and Mental Health in Las Vegas NV.
He is survived by his wife, Rannette Dean; children, Larry (John) Dean, Ron (Loretta) Dean, Mike (Rita) Dean and David (Kathy ) Dean; step-sons Brett (Kim) Johnson, Marcus Johnson; grandchildren, Lindy (Eric) Stanford, Myers (Amanda) Dean , Bridgette (Brad ) Lowery, Blair Dean (John Jones), Paige (Sepp) Straka, Laura Ashley (Robert ) Skantz, Keaton (Caroline) Dean, Ethan (Madelyn) Dean, Presley Dean , Nick Dean, Easton Dean and Brett Johnson III; great grandchildren, Carter Stanford, Dean Lowery, Grayson Stanford, Shep Lowery, Parker Dean, Vivian Skantz, Rorey Dean, Blue Jones and Leo Straka; sister, Pat Dean.
He was preceded in death his daughter, Debbie Dean, wife Dorothy Dean, brother, Donald Dean, mother, Elizabeth Wilson, father Almus Lester Deans, sister Rochelle.
The visitation will be held at Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton, AL on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. The service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel. The burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. July29, 2024 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, with Military Honors.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Dean, Ron Dean, Mike Dean, David Dean, Brett Johnson,
Marcus Johnson and honorary pallbearers are Myers Dean, Keaton Dean, Easton Dean, Ethan Dean, Nick Dean, Brett Johnson III.
Marion County Funeral Home assisted the family.
