Alma Marie Cole Rovere – Obituary

Alma Marie Cole Rovere, 88, of Florence, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Spry-Williams Funeral Home of Florence. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Florence, with Father Andy Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Marie was born Aug. 18, 1924, to Guilford Taylor and Mary Louise Cole of Waynesboro, Tenn. She was an excellent basketball player in high school. During World War II, Marie was a “Rosie the Riveter” for the Firestone Airplane facility in Akron, Ohio. When the war ended, she married Mario Rovere in 1946 and they settled in Florence, Ala., where they raised their family and she was active in her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She loved her garden and surrounded herself with flowers. She was known for her kindness and sweet smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mario; brothers, James Cole and David Cole; sister, Mary Louise Brondum.
She is survived by her children, sons, Joe (Donna), Jim (Linda), Tim, Mark (Diane); daughter, Carolyn; grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Heather, Chris, Clay, Ann-Marie and Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Cole, Jasper Cole, Harold Cole; sister, Doris Klingelhoets; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Florence Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home and Tennessee Valley Hospice for the wonderful care she received.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Tennessee Valley Hospice.
