Allyn Thomas Allison, born January 22, 1960, died Monday, August 26, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 64.
Allyn was born in Decatur, Georgia and graduated from Southwest DeKalb in 1978. He then continued his studies at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1982 with a degree in Agricultural Mechinization Technology. After college Allyn joined the United States Army and enrolled in Officer Candidate School to become a Combat Engineer, serving in several locations.
In 1994, Allyn transitioned from active service to the Army Reserves (serving an additional 25 years) and took a job with the Army Corps of Engineers at their Nashville, Tennessee office. In 2001 he moved to the Huntsville, Alabama office where he worked until retirement in December 2022.
Allyn was always the first to help others, whether it was through the Army Reserves, church groups, or other community organizations. He was a wealth of knowledge, providing wise counsel to various projects and pitching in to see them through. He will be dearly missed by many.
Allyn is survived by his wife, Gail (Holliday) and his three children, Caitlin (Jacob) Swanson, Morgan (Shelly Jo) Allison, and Rebecca (Sean) McKinney. He was a greandfather to Everett McKinney, who he doted on lovingly.
Allyn was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Virginia Allison, brother Lester Allison, and Aunt Kate Allison Duke.
