Allison Noble Garrett, 73, died on 23 October 2023 after a battle with endometrial cancer.
Allison was born in Gadsden, Alabama in 1949 to John and Louise Noble. Allison was the oldest the three children that John and Louise would have. Allison grew up in rural Etowah County, Alabama. Her paternal grandmother, who lived across the road from her parents, noted that even at an early age Allison was as, “busy as a bee,” and full of energy. She was always on the go and had to have something to do. She made friends easily and loved a good conversation.
Allison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a major in Home Economics and minor in Nutritional Science from Jacksonville State University in 1972. Allison would later return to school on nights and weekends to earn a Master of the Arts in Education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1989.
She met and dated her future husband Dale Irving Garrett while attending Jacksonville State University. Dale and Allison married in 1972. They lived in the small community of Silver Run in Talladega County. Allison worked as a teacher in the Munford City School system for the first few years of her and Dale’s marriage. She became a stay-at-home mother when their son, Jeremy, was born in 1976.
Allison returned to full-time teaching in 1984 at the Donoho School in Anniston, Alabama. Allison taught second grade, third grade, and computer technology. During her tenure at Donoho, she touched the lives of her fellow teachers and hundreds of students. She was known for her kindness, work ethic, and tireless devotion to those she taught.
Allison retired from teaching in 2017 after the death of her husband, Dale, in December of 2015. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 2017 to be closer to her son Jeremy and his wife Sarah, who she loved like a daughter. Retirement did little to slow Allison down. She built her new life in Huntsville with the same energy and outgoing nature that she approached everything. Before long, she had become close friends with much of her neighborhood, took on the role of Secretary of the HOA, built and decorated her dream home, and single-handedly caused much of her neighborhood go up a pants size with her pound cakes.
Allison was a positive force of nature in many people’s lives. She made friends easily, and she always put those she cared about before herself. Her spirit, energy, and love of life was infectious. She was always there for her sister, Andrea Moncus, during her sister’s long battle with cancer. She became a surrogate mother to her niece Callie Moncus Weir and nephew Jonathan Moncus after their mother’s passing. Allison loved her daughter-in-law Sarah Garrett like she was her own daughter. Allison treated her closest friends like they were sisters. She was a devoted wife to her husband Dale and an amazing mother to her son Jeremy.
Words cannot express how much Allison Garrett will be missed. Allison Garrett will always be loved and remembered by her son, Jeremy Dale Garrett and his wife Sarah (Longshore); her nephew, Jonathan Moncus and his wife, Christina (Thompson); and their children, (Gavin and Charley); her niece, Callie Weir and her husband, Harlan; and her brother Mark Noble.
Allison Garrett was preceded in death by her husband Dale Irving Garrett; her sister, Andrea Noble Moncus; her mother, Louise Palmer Noble; and her father, John Avery Noble.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow in the chapel.
