Allen Lee Sivley, born 14Sep1929 passed away 24Jun2024.
He was the eldest son of Sarah Calloway Shelton Sivley and the Reverend Dick Maple Sivley of Moulton Alabama. After Allen graduated high school, he attended Auburn University before joining the U S Navy in what would become a career spanning five continents and twenty years.
Allen was a veteran of the Korean War. After leaving the seas of Korea, Allen joined the submarine fleet as a communications and electronics technician. He met the beautiful woman who would become his first wife, Winnie Louise Atcheson, at Charleston S.C. The former WAC worked in administration for the Civil Service. They married at Monck’s Corner, SC in 1957.
With Allen’s transfer to an aircraft carrier, the young couple moved to Portsmouth Virginia where their first child was born. Their family was complete with the birth of their second child in South Weymouth, Massachusetts five years later.
Another transfer took the family across the Atlantic Ocean to Sicily where Allen made Chief. Wanting to continue his education, Allen accepted a transfer two years later to Rhode Island for additional training. After a brief stay there, they moved again to the territory of Guam. It was in Guam that Allen attained the rank of warrant officer, resumed his education with classes at Guam Community College, and made the decision to retire from the Navy.
After leaving the Navy, Allen and his family returned to South Carolina. Allen accepted a position at Greenville Technical College. However, a year later, a family road trip following US 1 down the coast to the southernmost point brought them to Key West Florida. Resuming his own education, Allen attended both Florida Keys Community College (FKCC) and Florida International University (FIU). He attained both a bachelor’s degree and a Masters. Allen resumed a second career, teaching communications and electronics at FKCC. Allen and his wife Winnie enjoyed travelling, fishing, and visiting their children and grandchildren. It was after Winnie’s death, on a trip to Rome, that Allen met his second wife Martha Alberi. Together Allen and the beautiful retired school nurse had another chance at love. It was at this time, that Allen returned to live in Alabama. Allen and Martha lived in Decatur until her passing. Allen then returned to Moulton where he lived until October 2023, before moving to the nursing home.
Allen is survived by his brother John Corban Sivley, his two children, several grandchildren and great-grandhildren, niece and nephews, and their families
