He was born and raised in Sidon, Mississippi where he met his bride of 66 years, Martha Whatley Taylor. They moved to Starkville in 1958 where he began working at Mississippi State University’s Physical Plant Department. He obtained his degrees from MSU in Civil and Architectural Engineering. He dedicated 43 years of employment to overseeing improvements to the infrastructure of the MSU campus. He served as a deacon at Meadowview Baptist Church where he was a member for over 65 years. He enjoyed giving back to his community and dedicated many years of service as a Mason and Shriner. His close friends and family knew him to be caring, thoughtful and always willing to lend a hand. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers.
He leaves behind his wife Martha, his daughter Alison and son-in-law Tim, his daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law Bo, and his grandson Gabriel.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following, all at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS. Rev. Jason Middleton will conduct the service. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville.
