Mr. Avans is survived by his wife, Terrie Avans; daughters, Dawn Lugo, Jamie Anselmo, Dona Lynn Walton, Samantha Avans, and Raeann Avans; son, Leo Escoe; grandchildren, Brianna, Jeramia, Noah, Cherity, Luke, Kyleigh, Kymorah, Derrick, Madalynn, Preston, and Joycelynn; father, Alfred Avans; and a brother, Frank Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hastings and a brother, Ronnie Hastings.
