Sheffield native and Muscle Shoals resident, Aline Jacot Martin Mullen was released from her earthly body, July 20, 2023 and now resides in the Kingdom of God. Aline was born at Colbert County Hospital, Sheffield, AL on August 9, 1933, to Louis and Helen Martin of Sheffield, and attended Sheffield City Schools, c/o 1951. Aline attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Alabama, with a Bachelor degree in Mathematics. Aline also earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from UNA.
Aline met and married Lt. Robert G. “Bob” Mullen, USN, of Florence, Alabama August. 1956. For 2 years they lived in London, England, where Bob was stationed. While in London, 2 of their 4 children, Alice and Robin, were born. They returned to Sheffield in 1958, were 2 more children, Keith and Wade, joined the family. They lived on Montgomery Avenue, Sheffield where much love, laughter, and adventures happened in raising a family.
Aline was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Helen Martin; son, William Price “Wade” Mullen; and son-in-law, Jim Maddox.
She is survived by her children, Alice Mullen Maddox, Robert G. Mullen, Jr. (Suzanne), and Edward Keith Martin Mullen (Jill); daughter-in-law, Dana Andrews Mullen; sister, Patt Martin DeVitt and Edith Martin Ruggles (Don); grandchildren, Grace, Lindsey, Graham, Meagan, Katie (Reid), Nancy (Trent), Morgan, and David; and many beautiful nieces and nephews, cousins and friends near and dear in her heart.
Aline attended Trinity Episcopal Church, Florence, and later joined Grace Episcopal Church, Sheffield, where she volunteered and served committees including many years on Alter Guild, and serving as a Eucharist minister.
Aline was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chief Colbert Chapel, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels for their professional care, love, and concern, especially, Patricia, Linda, and Carley; also, the Grace Episcopal Church family and many others for their love and care for Mom.
Funeral arrangements are as follows, visitation will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Sheffield. The family will have a private interment at Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Grace Episcopal Church, Sheffield or your local humane society.
