Alice Smith Abbott

Our beloved mother, Alice Smith Abbott age 100 passed away August 16, 2019 in Greenville, SC. She was born on Jan 30, 1919 in Lewisburg, TN to the late Dr and Mrs Robert H. Smith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years James C Abbott, Sr.  She graduated from Marshall County High & received her BS Degree from Middle Tennessee College. She excelled in drama and speech and was awarded with a masque thespian necklace for acting excellence. After graduation she returned to Marshall County High where she taught
English, speech, and social studies.  She joined the First Methodist Church in Lewisburg when she was thirteen years of age. She was an active Methodist and devout Christian all her life.
She was a devoted wife and mother who adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As an only child, she cherished her relationship with her husband’s family. She was known for her kindness to everyone. Her ability to say thank you uplifted all she came in contact with. Her life is a shining example of graciousness and daily expressions of thankfulness for all of her blessings in life.  She is survived by 2 children James (Sue) Abbott, Jr of Greenville, SC and Blanche Young of Jacksonville, FL; 4 grandchildren Jennifer (Stephen) Williams, Cameron (Sarah) Abbott, Raymond (Joanna) Young, Laura (Juan) Valdez: 6 great grandchildren, Cody and Carter Williams; Carley, Caroline, Magnolia, and Westin Abbott.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 23 9:00am till 10:30am at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville Al with a grave side service at 11:00am Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, AL.
Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church of Huntsville, AL
