Alice Coker Hayes, age 91, of Tuscumbia, died Monday, November 20, 2023. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, November 24, from noon until 2:00 p.m., at Tuscumbia First Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Rudy Guess officiating. Interment will be in Margerum Cemetery.
Mrs. Hayes was born on September 28, 1932 in Burnsville, Mississippi to the late Kelly and Lou Coker. She was a lifelong resident of the Shoals and worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse at E.C.M. Hospital. There, Mrs. Hayes welcomed an untold number of babies into the world with a smile and gentle touch.
Mrs. Hayes was a strong Christian woman. She was active at Tuscumbia First Methodist Church. Mrs. Hayes was also active in the Shoals Emmaus Cluster. A life of love and a legacy of a servant heart is what marked Alice Coker Hayes. She loved and served her Lord, her family, her friends, and her community. She was a prayer warrior and stood ever ready to minister to the needs of others.
Preceding Mrs. Hayes in death were her beloved husband, Ray Hayes; brothers, Gerald Coker and Lloyd Coker; and her aforementioned parents.
Survivors include her children, Susan Keeton (Buddy) and Sam Hayes (Tammy); grandchildren, Jodie Keeton Byrd (Robert), Missy Keeton Montgomery (Marc), Emily Kate Hayes, Allison Hayes, and Michael Hayes; great-grandchildren, Ridge Byrd, Charlie Byrd, Keeton Montgomery, and Mary Kate Montgomery; and special friend and caregiver, Tannie Johnson.
