Alice Ann Wheeler Weeks, age 74, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, departed this earthly life on August 23, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior. While touring the General Joe Wheeler Home in Hillsboro, Alabama, she experienced a fall and never regained consciousness.
Alice was born and raised in Winfield, Alabama where she married her high school sweetheart, Jearl Weeks, in 1966. They later made their home in Muscle Shoals where they raised their family and owned and operated a family motel business for many years. After that, she began a second career with the state of Alabama’s Early Intervention System where she was employed at the time of her passing. Alice was a lifelong Methodist and member of Shady Grove Methodist Church in Muscle Shoals. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. A woman of quiet faith, her family always knew that she was praying for them.
Alice will be remembered for many things, but above all, her love and devotion to family is what stands out. A strong and dependable woman, she held her family close through the ups and downs of life. She was a beloved mother that could always be counted on for support and encouragement. She raised two sons to have good values and to be good husbands and fathers to their families. She was a fun, loving and engaged “Nana” that enjoyed her grandchildren and had a special bond with each. She was a loving wife that spoiled her husband beyond words. A kind and gracious lady, she will be missed by many.
Alice had a full life and there were many hobbies that she was known for. She was an avid reader throughout her life, enjoyed the library and was eager to teach those around her with her wisdom. She played tennis in a women’s league for many years. She enjoyed growing beautiful plants and flowers and often “rooted” plants for family and friends. She loved cooking for her family and knew everyone’s favorite dish. Her specialties were fried chicken tenders, chicken and dumplings, apple pie, chocolate pie, banana pudding, waffles and so much more. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and was always up for an adventure. She often sought out the less traveled roads, small town attractions and historic homes. Alice and her husband enjoyed their trips to Kansas to visit with family there. She loved playing cards and board games with her family. She maintained a huge collection of toys and books that were passed down through the generations and are still enjoyed today by her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheeler, Sr., and a brother, Charles Wheeler, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Jearl Weeks, sons, Craig Weeks (Kristie) of Muscle Shoals, Chris Weeks (Suzanne) of Overland Park, Kansas, grandchildren, Michael Weeks (Lucy) of Muscle Shoals, Jason Weeks (Lana) of Madison, Rachel Weeks (Cade Tverberg) of Huntsville, Lexington Weeks and Madeline Weeks of Overland Park, Kansas, a brother, Robert Wheeler of Guin, one sister, Jane Raines (Jim) of Winfield, mother-in-love, Glenda Weeks of Winfield and great granddaughters, Addison and Ada Weeks, nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 with arrangements by Colbert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in her honor to:
