The Lord called our beloved mother and grandmother, Alfreida Blackwell Morris home to
be with him. She entered eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Elk River Health and
Nursing Center, Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Alfreida Blackwell Morris was born December 27, 1942 to the late Fred A. Blackwell, Sr.
and the late Julia Cunningham Blackwell. She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive
Baptist Church on Hunt Street in Winchester, Tennessee where she gave the church
announcements for many years. She had an amazing and extraordinary knowledge of
the scriptures. She also loved to sing and play the piano.
She united in holy matrimony with the late Reuben Daniel Morris, Jr. on June 7, 1964
and to this union three children were born. Two sons, Reuben Daniel Morris, III and Dr.
Reginald Todd Morris preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rev. Gloria Maddox and a brother, Rev.
Fred A. Blackwell, Jr.
Alfreida was a graduate of Townsend High School where she graduated as class
salutatorian. During her high school years, she was a very good basketball player. She
attended college at Tennessee State University where she received a Bachelor’s in
Business Education. She studied further at Middle Tennessee State University where
she received her Master’s in Guidance and Counseling.
She was employed at the Arnold Engineering Development Center as an executive
secretary. She also was employed as a substitute teacher for the Franklin County
School System. During her later years, she was employed as a greeter at Walmart in
Tullahoma.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Darla (Marcus, Sr.) Taylor; two
grandsons, Marcus Taylor, Jr. and Nathaniel Elijah Taylor; three sisters, Carolyn Nelson,
Barbara Brannon, and Marva Allgood; two brothers, Floyd R. Blackwell, Sr. and Ferris
M. (Barbara) Blackwell; a sister-in-law, Kay Blackwell and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
