Alfred received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Murray State University. He worked as an industrial electrician in a chemical plant in Calvert City for 36 years and farmed on his family’s land where he raised Hereford cattle and grew burley tobacco. He loved nature and was an expert at identifying trees by their bark, and many other species of plants and animals. After graduating from school, he served in the US Army in Alaska from 1955 to 1957 during the Korean War. He then came home and married and was a wonderful support and provider to his wife’s professional career and his family.

He loved his church home and the people and was very active everywhere he attended serving as a deacon and SS teacher for as long as he could. Attending and working in church was high on his priority list. He always had a warm smile for strangers as well as acquaintances.
