A celebration of life for Alfred Herman Hecht, age 96, of Lincoln County, TN, will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Medium Cemetery. There will be no visitation before the graveside service.

Born on November 6, 1927, in Smith Creek, NC, Alfred Hecht was the son of the late William John Hecht and Margaret Seaman Hecht. After graduating from high school, he pursued a degree in Civil Engineering at NC State University. Alfred met his future wife and best friend at a Lutheran Church camp, and they were married on December 8, 1951. He was subsequently drafted into the US Air Force. Alfred spent his career designing rockets at Thiokol Corporation (now Northrop Grumman) in Huntsville, AL, and was a dedicated member of Ascension Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) in Huntsville.

Al was passionate about the outdoors, often found tending to his garden, caring for apple trees and blueberry bushes, and identifying wildflowers. He was also a devoted college football and NC State basketball fan. His whole life, Al enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Marilyn and his family. Alfred passed away on August 23, 2024, at NHC Pulaski in Pulaski, TN.

Survivors include his children, Laurel Galloway of Petersburg, TN, Kristin (Tim) Vordenbaum of Auburn, AL, Stephen Hecht of Huntsville, AL, and John (Lisa) Hecht of Pearl River, LA; grandchildren, Hope (Daniel) Green, Autumn Galloway, Jacob (Shania) Galloway, Audrey (Austin) Hebbeler, Meaghan (Jake) Brewer, Trevor Vordenbaum, Hayley Vordenbaum, John Alfred Hecht, Jr., Bobby Scott Bell, and Jessica (Andrew) Joyner; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy Green, David Green, Samantha Green, Anders Joyner, Mattie Joyner, and Maggie Hebbeler. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Hecht; and brothers, Eric Hecht, and William John Hecht, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
