Alfred Alfonza Smith was born on October 31, 1951, and departed this life November 3, 2024. Affectionately known as Bay Bay and Smitty, he was the fifth child born to the union of Henderson Bernard Smith, Sr. and Ozelle (Maclin) Smith-Green.
He accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stanton, TN. After relocating to Huntsville, he joined First Missionary Baptist church and was a member of the Brotherhood Chorus.
Alfred was married to Beverly Cassidy and to this union Justin was born. He was also married to Brenda Pruitt-Gurley and Helen Kincaid.
Alfred attended schools in Memphis, Chattanooga, and Council Training in Huntsville, AL. He also attended J. F. Drake College, Huntsville, AL and Monterey Peninsula College in California. Upon entering the military, he attended The U. S. Army Adjutant Generals School (Fort Benjamin) for Legal Administration, Office Administration, Office Management, Legal Clerk, and Advanced Leadership Development. The U. S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School for Law for Legal Clerks, Chief NCO Legal Course Law Office Management, as well as The U. S. Naval Justice Academy for Court Reporting. Alfred received certificates of achievements and an associate in science degree in Administration of Justice. He received a Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, Army Science Ribbon, Overseas Service ribbon, Army Achievement Medals and 5 Army Good Conduct Medals. He served in the Military from 1972 to 1990, and was honorably discharged as (SFC/E-7), Sergeant First Class, E-7.
Alfred was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henderson Smith, Sr. and Ozelle (Smith) Green; his brother Henderson, Jr. and sister, Wanda Briggs.
He is survived by his son Justin; grandchildren, Jordan, Kayla and Valentina; great-granddaughter, Mariah, all of Gaithersburg, MD. He leaves to cherish his loving memory four sisters; Jacquelyn Smith, Portia Mitchell (Hollis–deceased), and Eleanor Snodgrass of Huntsville, Vernita McNeil (Marshall), Locust Grove, GA; brothers; Floyd Jr. and Ronnie Green of Huntsville; 20 nieces and nephews; a host of great/great-great nieces, nephews and cousins, and a dedicated Home Care Assistant, Paulette Hughes.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW Huntsville, AL 35810).
The family of Mr. Alfred Alfonza Smith will receive guests 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories.
