LAUDERDALE COUNTY – On Tuesday, March 25, at the request of the Lauderdale County
Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer‐involved shooting
involving deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Florence
Police Department.

The incident occurred after Lauderdale County dispatch received a call regarding a bank robbery
that occurred in Florence, within Lauderdale County. Following the robbery, law enforcement
officers were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The
suspect, identified as Louis Michael Hill, 26, of Rogersville, fled and a pursuit ensued until
Hill’s vehicle became disabled. While attempting to steal another vehicle, Hill presented a
firearm and fired at law enforcement officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Hill. Hill
was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the course of the incident, an officer with the Florence Police Department was struck by
gunfire and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. An innocent bystander, who was an
occupant in the vehicle Hill was attempting to steal, was also struck and transported to North
Alabama Medical Center in Florence for treatment. However, both the officer and the civilian
suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Nothing further is available as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings
will be turned over to the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office.
