ALEA Investigate Officer Involved Shooting Huntsville

MADISON COUNTY— On Saturday August 24, at the request of the Huntsville Police
Department (HPD), Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting
involving an officer with HPD.

The incident occurred when HPD received a call for service regarding a domestic violence situation in the 6200 Block of Rime Village Drive in Huntsville.

Once on scene, officers encountered an individual with a firearm that fired at the fleeing female.
The officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Naimmikal Wayne Sanders, 38, of Decatur, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured over the course of the incident.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be
turned over to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
