Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, gifted physician and friend, Albert Lee Smith III went home to be with his Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 8th at home surrounded by his immediate family. He was born February 13, 1969. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and lived out his faith espeicially through service to his community and in his medical practice. His “pretty girls” – wife, Amanda and daughters, Caroline (8), Ella Kate (6) and Audrey (3) – were the light of his life. He loved outdoor activities including running, fly fishing, cycling, kayaking, scuba diving, water skiing, boating, sailing, wind surfing and snow skiing. In homage to his knowledge and love of driving high performance cars, he will be buried in his racing shoes. He especially enjoyed taking his girls to Auburn football games as his father did with him. He was a Gideon and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Guntersville where he was very active and developed numerous cherished friendships. His church family has been the hands and feet of Christ during Albert’s illness. As his father told him growing up, he could do anything he put his mind to. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School where he lettered in track and football. He attended Georgia Tech and earned an electrical engineering degree from Auburn University. He earned both a Master’s in Biology and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his medical residency at the University of Shreveport before becoming a partner in Lakeside Clinic practicing family medicine. He served multiple leadership roles at Marshall Medical Center North. His work families at both Lakeside Clinic and Marshall North loved him and have been extremely supportive of Albert and his family through his almost three year battle with thyroid cancer. Although he did not practice electrical engineering, he applied his knowledge through his love of the latest and best high tech devices.
He was preceded in death and greeted in heaven by his father, Albert Lee Smith Jr. and his grandparents, Albert Lee Smith Sr. and Margaret G. Smith and Herman W. Walldorf, Florence H. Walldorf and Evelyn R. Walldorf. In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his mother, Eunie W. Smith; sisters, Karen F. Smith and Meg S. (Jason) Wallace and her sons, Jackson, Reese and Cooper. Mother-in-law and father-in-law, Phillip and Wilda Jeffreys. Sister-in-law, Kesha J. (Rich) Dutton and her children, Gracie and Gage; brother-in-law, Dustin Jeffreys and his children, Nicholas and Ali.
Visitation was at First Baptist Church of Guntersville on Wednesday, September 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at the church today, September 10th at 2 p.m. with graveside following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you support one of the following causes which were near and dear to Albert’s heart: Wycliffe Bible Translators in care of First Baptist Church Guntersville, Gideons International, and/or First Baptist Church Guntersville designated to the African Kanyipola Mission orphanage.
