FLORENCE – The Alabama National Guard’s 46th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Unit will be coming in from Montgomery to host a Hazardous Materials training on Monday, April 15. As a result of this training exercise, you may see Humvees and other large equipment throughout the week.
The City of Florence Fire & Rescue Team and Muscle Shoals Fire Department will be participating in classroom training and hands-on drills to equip them to better respond to Hazardous Materials situations. The training will take place at the Muscle Shoals Fire Academy. “We appreciate the 46th Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit for allowing us the opportunity to train with its soldiers. Anything can happen, and we need to be ready and available,” said Florence Fire Chief Jeff Perkins.
The large training equipment will be hauled in on big trailers and will be very visible to the public. You may even see a Humvee at a local restaurant during the evening hours. If you photograph any of the equipment in Florence, be sure to tag the City of Florence using the handle @City of Florence.
“We are very excited to have the National Guard Civil Support Unit in town. I want to express my sincere gratitude to ALL of the dedicated men and women who serve and protect us every day,” says Florence Mayor Steve Holt.
