MONTGOMERY, AL – The Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) and TRIO Community Meals (TRIO) today announced a new partnership for providing meals through the Alabama Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP). The five-year contract is scheduled to begin July 1, 2023.
“This contract is the result of months of planning and development by ADSS staff who are mindful that our partnership with TRIO will ensure that senior meals are tasty, nutritionally balanced, and wholesome,” said ADSS Commissioner Jean Brown. “The importance of the ENP can’t be overstated. In some cases, it may provide the only balanced meal a senior eats that day. Those meals are also an essential part of allowing seniors to stay in their home.”
TRIO is an Elior North America company. It has over 50 years’ experience in providing meals and is the largest senior meal provider in the country. Trio produces, manufactures, and delivers over 2.5 million meals weekly throughout the U.S. TRIO Community Meals (TRIO)
TRIO Managing Director of Growth Lisa Damore said TRIO is excited to be the awarded vendor to serve Alabama seniors and ADSS.
“We are proudly aligned with ADSS to impact seniors significantly,” Damore said. “Fostering and encouraging healthy living while ensuring the well-being of the seniors of Alabama is a top priority for TRIO – it is in our DNA. The team is committed to reducing hunger and food insecurity among older adults by supporting congregate programs, home-delivered meal programs, and Medicaid Waiver meal programs in alignment with the Older Americans Act. We look forward to bringing our national resources and portfolio of enhanced programming to ADSS and the seniors of Alabama.”
Approximately 330 senior centers throughout Alabama take part in the ENP through ADSS. More than 5 million congregate, curbside, and home-delivered meals were provided to Alabama seniors through the ENP in Fiscal Year 2022. That same year, another 2.1 million meals were served to Medicaid Waiver clients in Alabama through the Elderly and Disabled Waiver and Alabama Community Transition Waiver programs, which also operate under ADSS.
