WASHINGTON—Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) released the following statement announcing a grant in the amount of $2,000,000 for the railroad overpass in Sheffield, Alabama.

“I am pleased to announce that the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG) received a grant totaling $2,000,000 for the design and construction of a roadway and bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad near Montgomery Avenue in Sheffield, Alabama.”

“Trains consistently block the railroad crossing, sometimes for days, provoking major traffic delays. Travelers are re-routed from the crossing to longer routes and first responders are hindered in arriving to emergencies. This overpass will relieve the stress of the roadway on travelers and open a consistently reliable route through town.”

“The funds are being administered through the United States Department of Transportation as part of the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grants. As I’ve said before, as a Member of Congress, and specifically a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I strongly believe in these types of investments in our infrastructure and look forward to seeing the area benefit from the grant.”

NACOLG Executive Director Keith Jones made the following statement after receiving the grant.

“On behalf of the Shoals MPO which is an important component of NACOLG, we would like to thank Congressman Aderholt, Senator Shelby, and Senator Tuberville in securing these critical funds. This will allow the process to begin for a future rail overpass,” said Executive Director Jones.
