A Whole New Ballgame – When Viewed from the Sideline

ROTC Cadets run the flags at the recent UNA vs Shorter Football game.

Florence, Alabama – This past Saturday, thanks to Mark Linder, UNA Athletic Director, I was given the opportunity to take pictures from the sidelines at the UNA vs. Shorter University football game at Braly Stadium. To say the least I was excited to get this opportunity and wanted to make the most of it. I won’t go into my preparations, camera equipment or the many photographer’s rules I broke during the game. I will say, however, that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to get to do it again soon.

I have attended many games at Braly Stadium during the past several years, but it only took me about five minutes to figure out that watching at sideline level was the proverbial “whole new ballgame”. Trying to manage a camera with a long lens on it plus keeping an eye on where the players and the football was at all times was extremely hard. I only had one close call on a pass play that came right at me but I retreated before the players got close.

Being Homecoming, I also got shots of the Homecoming Queen and King and the Court.
