MONTGOMERY–In preparation for winter weather across Alabama, Governor Robert Bentley on Saturday placed several key state agencies on alert and urged Alabamians to get prepared for a wintry mix that may include ice, freezing rain and snow beginning Sunday
night.
“With winter weather expected to impact Alabama, we are taking
precautions to protect Alabamians,” Governor Robert Bentley said. “I have alerted key state agencies to begin preparing now for anticipated severe weather winter. Alabamians must also prepare and stay winter aware as weather conditions may change unexpectedly. We will actively monitor the storm as it begins to hit the state and are prepared to respond to any requests for assistance.”
Key agencies placed on alert include the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), Alabama National Guard, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Alabama Department of Transportation. Governor Bentley and AEMA are in contact with the National Weather Service and will be monitoring this weather event until the threat diminishes. State agencies are on standby to coordinate resources to
support the needs of Alabama counties if necessary.”
“Citizen preparedness is the key to minimizing the risk first responders face if the situation becomes dangerous,” AEMA Director Art Faulkner said. “Alabamians should have an emergency preparedness kit in their vehicle in case travel is necessary while winter weather is impacting the state. AEMA will be ready to respond if needed.”
