FLORENCE-Mayor Steve Holt is pleased to announce that the Florence-Lauderdale Government Building (102 South Court Street) and the Florence Municipal Building (110 West College Street) now feature a link to the past on their front doors. As part of the Muscle Shoals Heritage OnCell Program, these buildings have a decal that includes a QR code on the front doors. This code will allow everyone with a smartphone camera to connect to historical information.
Here’s how to do it: open your smartphone camera, hold it over the QR code, and it will link you directly to the website. “After scanning the code, you can access photographs, maps, oral histories, advertisements and other items related to the buildings, along with a historical narrative and an architectural overview,” said Brian Murphy, curator at the Florence Indian Mound Museums.
Thus far, there are 17 buildings in this innovative Downtown Florence Walking Tour. Historic preservation consultant Katie Randall and Brian Murphy spent several months compiling information about each building. The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area and participating businesses funded the project. If you would like to participate, please contact Katie Randall at Katie@aforepreservation.com or 615-743-5862.
“This is an educational and entertaining experience for residents and visitors. We are proud of our rich history and culture. Take time to link into the past; you will not be disappointed,” said Mayor Steve Holt.
