MUSCLE SHOALS – Dewey Lindon Oldham II… The Shoals (and pretty much the rest of the world) knows him as “Spooner” in his humble way made nothing much of it when his wife, Karen let it slip that he is scheduled to play on stage at the 2020 Academy Awards 92nd Ceremony this February 9th with Sir Elton John.
Oldham, as most people in Muscle Shoals know, is a member of The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, a member of The Alabama Music Hall of Fame, and winner of multiple Grammy’s and Gold and Platinum Records for the dozens of hit songs that he has appeared on and has composed (most of them with his lifelong music partner, Dan Penn). Spooner, in the “early days” of his career played those world-famous Hammond B-3 licks that open, Percy Sledge’s, “When A Man Loves A Woman”… so it is a gross understatement to say that Spooner’s “been-around the infield a few times”.
Congratulations, Spooner. You make us all envious!

Congratulations brother!
I doubt you’ll remember…but sat down & played beside you in George Soulé’s basement. You listened to a couple of my songs & encouraged me. Never forgotten. You have a magical, beautiful soul.
