Two Arrested In Event Center Shooting In Madison County

MADISON COUNTY-The Madison County Sheriff’s Department has issued a press release concerning the event center shooting that took place this past Saturday night:

Event Center Shooting

Huntsville, AL (January 9, 2023): Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting call at Legacy Events on Hwy. 72 East near Ryland Pike, Saturday night around 11:30pm. The shooting resulted in eleven gunshot victims, two of which died on the scene and three are still in critical condition. Sheriff’s Office investigators have been working all weekend to piece together the events that led to the shooting, and to locate those responsible.
So far investigators have determined there was a 21st birthday party being held at the event center. There had been ongoing issues between some of the people at the event that led to the shooting.

Multiple people fired guns during the shooting and investigators are still working to identify everyone. Crime Scene investigators recovered over 200 shell casings from inside the building, in the parking lot, and the roadway. The casings included multiple calibers of handguns and rifles.

The two that were killed were Kaitlyn Jenkins, 20 years old, and Quantasia Grant, 20 years old. Investigators have arrested and charged Ashton Elliot, 20 years old, and DeMarcus Thompson, 19 years old, and with 2 counts of Felony Reckless Murder.

The investigation continues and additional arrests are expected. If anyone has information related to the shooting, they are asked to call the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, at 256-722-7181.”
