J.L. Whitehead, age 84, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth after a short illness. He was born July 16, 1936 in Haleyville, AL to Lonnie and Hester Whitehead. He enlisted in the army upon graduation from high school where he was an army security agent. He retired from the army after 22 years and two combat ours in Vietnam. He went to work for the employment security commission and retired from there in 1998. J.L. Loved to work in his garden, play bingo, and travel with his wife. His greatest joy was spending time with his six grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell a good story. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, David (Kathy) and Carl (Tracey); a brother, James (Bonnie); a sister, Hazel Moxley (Bobby); and six grandchildren, Carlena, Kason, Loren, Jeana, Natalie, and Norah. He was preceded in death by one son, Loyd Whitehead; and his parents, Lonnie and Hester Whitehead. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 12 Noon until 2pm, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2pm, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Bro. James Rich. Burial will be in Dennis Memory Garden Cemetery. Donations may be made in J.L.’s honor to the American Cancer Institute.
