Donald James RivenburghDonald James Rivenburgh, age 84, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, TN. Donald was born June 23, 1936. He was a long time native of Plymouth / Norwich, New York. He currently resided in Lawrenceburg, TN with his wife of59 years, Judy Sampson-Rivenburgh, formerly of Greene, New York.  Donald was a graduate of Norwich Senior High School and then served in the United States Air Force. Following an honorable discharge, he served his community for the rest of his professional life as a career Firefighter with the City of Norwich Fire Department, serving as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Captain.  Donald also served several terms as a volunteer Assistant Chief during his tenure with the City. Donald served well into his retired years as “County Car 4”a Chenango County Deputy Fire Coordinator and Chief Fire Investigator. Donald lived his life in Service to others, his family, his community, and his nation. He was very proud of his service to the fire department and Chenango County.  He will be respectfully remembered as an exceptional firefighter, a teacher and a mentor to generations of firefighters. Donald’s free time was spent enjoying the woods and the great outdoors with his love of fishing, turkey calling, and deer hunting with his son and longtime friends. Donald was extremely proud of his family and he was a most devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather.  Donald is survived by his wife, Judy of Lawrenceburg, TN. His daughter Debra and her husband, Steven Randolph of Lawrenceburg TN. His son, Niel and his wife, Jeanette Rivenburgh of Watertown, NY.  He is survived by his much loved, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his sister, Sandra and husband, Roy Rothwell of Plymouth, in addition too, several nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sydney and Judy Rivenburgh, and sisters, Jean Rivenburgh-Van Camp and Carol Rivenburgh-Young. Donald Rivenburgh will return home to Norwich for his committal and a family memorial service at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich NY at a later date, yet to be determined.
