Deacon Jimmie L. Kallaham was born on January 31, 1927 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida to the late Alberta Henderson and Willie Kallaham. He grasped the Master’s hand and the gates of Heaven opened up and extended a warm welcome to his new heavenly home on October 3, 2020.

He met the “Love of his Life,” the late Viola (Drayton) Kallaham, and they were joined in holy matrimony and shared 70+ years of love and happiness with their children. During their marriage, he worked as Head Foreman for the Volusia County Mosquito Control and retired on March 1, 1989 after serving 30+ years.

Deacon Kallaham was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of both the Sunday School and Deacon Board. He along with Deacon James Hudson worked tirelessly to help remodel and improve Bethel Baptist Church which became their second home. He was honored on numerous occasions and received several awards to include Certificates of Appreciations, Recognition of Faithful Service by the Peaceful Baptist Association and Appreciation of Community Service by the Westside Retirees. He has always acknowledged God first and on his bed of affliction he praised God in prayer and still struggled to sing some of his favorite songs such as “This Little light of Mine” and “Pass Me Not”. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Bethel until he united with Blackburn Chapel Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama where he served under Watchcare.

Deacon Kallaham was a godly man and a devoted Christian who had a heart of gold and a passion for giving to others. He loved reading the Bible and his favorite scripture was “The Lord’s Prayer”, Matt 6:9-13. Some of his favorite sayings were: “What a mighty good God we serve,” “I wouldn’t take nothing for this journey now”, “He’s so good” and “Thank the Lord and Y’all”.
Deacon Kallaham was preceded in death by his wife Viola Kallaham, one step-son Vander Carter, and one granddaughter Latonia Ward.

Deacon Kallaham leaves to cherish his memory: Three daughters, Sandra Jefferson (Arnold) of Enterprise, AL; Alenette Meeks (Craig) of Meridianville, AL, and Alberta Ward of Huntsville, AL; Two sons, Rembert Carter of New Smyrna Beach, FL and LeVarne Carter, Sr of Folkston, GA; nine grandchildren, Kionna Jefferson, Arnold Jefferson, Jr, DeAngela Meeks, Craig (Meshell) Meeks, Jr, Pastor Pete (Angela) Carter, Tabitha (George) Wright, Isaac Ward, Jr, Katina Carter, and Nicki Davis; one aunt Anna Wesley, a forever daughter-in-law Caroline Booth, and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
