Shooting On January 1 In Sheffield…One Dead…One Suspect Arrested Person Of Interest Still At Large

SHEFFIELD-On Wednesday, January 1 Sheffield Police answered a call regarding a man being shot on Poplar Street in Sheffield around noon.  Police discovered James McDaniel in the street with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

McDaniel was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he later died.  Before he was sent to Huntsville the victim told officers at the scene the name of the female who was present at the time of the shooting.  Police are searching for Francis Marion as person of interest.

Police said the female, Marion along with a male suspect, Jordan Garner left the scene and ran into the woods  after the shooting.  Tuscumbia Police K9 unit as well as a helicopter were brought in to aid with the search but to no avail.

Authorities with the Sheffield Police received information later in the day identifying the male suspect as Jordan Garner.  Officers set up surveillance at an apartment near the site of the original police call.  On Thursday, January 2 Garner was taken into custody and remains in the Sheffield City Jail.

Police are still looking for Francis Marion as a person of interest.  Anyone with information regarding Marion should call 256.386.5630.
