Cold Water Mill Restaurant: A Review

I did not know the Cold Water Mill Restaurant had opened where a former restaurant had been on Highway 72 in Tuscumbia, until recently.  Tracey had suggested that we have lunch there.  I had eaten at the previous restaurant years ago and it was ok.  I have to say that upon our arrival, I was truly impressed.

Upon entering the restaurant, we saw that the place had been completely redone.  There was new paint and the decorations did not seem as cluttered.   We were promptly greeted and taken to a seat.  The waitress, Cheyenne, was very courteous and told us about the day’s specials.  Tracey got the Catfish with trimmings.  I got the Chicken Tenders with Okra and Mashed Potatoes.

Tracey said that the Catfish was very good.  It was cooked tender and not greasy as sometimes you find at restaurants.  My Chicken Tenders were cooked to a golden brown and juicy.  The sides were very good.  We both commented on how good the Okra was.  We are both big Okra fans.  We like our Okra cooked Golden Brown but with a good taste in the batter.  We have to say the Okra at the Cold Water Mill met and exceeded our expectations. 

We talked with the waitress during our visit and she told us that Terry Battles had purchased the restaurant and did the changes to it.  She asked us if we wanted desert but we were to full.  While we were eating, I looked over the lunch menu.  They offer a meat with two sides or a vegetable plate that would surely satisfy the pickest of eaters.

The dining area seats approximately 70 people comfortably.  Cheyenne told us that they have a private dining area that can seat 35-40 people.  So that means if you have a family gathering or meeting, they have a private area for you.

We left that day as some say “full as a tick.”  We both agreed that we would return to the restaurant.  Flash forward to about 3 weeks later. I was under the weather.  I had not been out of the house for 5 days.   I had to get out even just for lunch.  Tracey suggests Cold Water Mill, so we go there again.

  This was on a Sunday around 2:00pm.  We were told that they close at 3:00 pm.  We figured we had plenty of time to eat.  I got the Chicken Fingers again while Tracey got the Country Fried Steak covered in White Gravy.  Mine was just as before, very good.  Tracey let me try a bite of her Country Fried Steak.  It was awesome.  I will be getting the Country Fried Steak the next time we go.

Our waitress was Cheyenne again.  She was just a friendly and helpful as before.  While eating, we noticed that people kept coming in to eat.  We got through eating at around 2:45pm and the restaurant had quite a few people.  Don’t guess they will be closing at 3:00pm.  But that is a god thing.

Walking to pay for our meal, we saw the desert case.  They had cakes of all kinds sitting there.  Cheyenne told us they were homemade.  I almost got some to go but passed (for this time).

We don’t know Mr. Battles but we would like to commend him on the upgrades that he did to the restaurant, the quality of the food as well as his wait staff being so friendly.    If you get a chance, go by the Cold Water Mill Restaurant.  We think you will like it. We will be going back.
