TUSCUMBIA-Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan held a press conference pertaining to the deadly shooting that took place around 11 PM on Tuesday, March 1 at the Spring Creek Apartments in Tuscumbia.
During the press conference it was learned that the older of the two victims was deceased at the scene, Kijana Freeman, 19 was found dead in the car. The younger of the two a 17-year-old male was found by a bystander who pulled the victim outside of the car still alive. A Tuscumbia police officer administered CPR. Chief Logan said the officer more than likely saved the life of the 17-year-old who was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. His condition has been reported as improved slightly since the shooting. His name has not been released due to his age.
Investigators believe the the two men were meeting someone to purchase an X-box, based on text messages on the victims’ phones. However, the investigators are looking in to other scenarios, namely that the Xbox deal may have been some kind of ruse to get the two victims to the apartment complex.
The weapon used was an AK-style semiautomatic rifle using 7.62 by 39 mm rounds. The subjects according to Logan were shot multiple times.
