HALEYVILLE – Motorists on their way to be University of Alabama this weekend via Haleyville in Winston County should be aware that HIghway 13 is blocked through town. It wasn’t meant to be that way, but that’s construction for you. Drivers who are headed down for the football gameare being advised to plan some extra time for trip.haleyville road work

Harold Bearden, of Haleyville web site www.hbtv.us sent us some photos and a story on the highway:

“The problem began a week ago when the Highway 13 roadway began to crack and then sink. The plan was to excavate half of the road at a time, install a new and larger culvert, then do the other half. Those plans changed when the road began to deteriorate rapidly, especially when large trucks drove through. A decision was made and Highway 13 at 8th Avenue was officially closed for an indefinite period of time beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Truck traffic through Haleyville from the north is being diverted at Bear Creek with detour signs by way of Highway 172, then 241 down to 278 and back up Highway 129. From the South, trucks can take Highway 129 to 241, to 172 and back on 13 at Bear Creek. The contractor will continue to excavate, drive in pilings and continue work on the culvert until it is finished. No definitive time has been given, but it will be weeks before the highway is reopened at this location. Local traffic and deliveries will be allowed through the barricades. Please follow the signs for detours during this closure.” – Harold Bearden, hbtv.us
