Charles Edwin Harper, 85, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2024.
Born on December 26, 1938, in Hamilton, AL, Charles was the son of Emit Irwin Harper and Edna Inez Palmer Harper. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1957, where he served as senior class president, and went on to earn a B.S. in Accounting from Florence State College in 1961.
After college, Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Berlin, Germany. Upon completing his service, he began his career in 1965 at the Redstone Arsenal Finance & Accounting Center, where he met the love of his life, Bobbie. They were married shortly thereafter, sharing a beautiful journey together for 59 years. Charles retired in 1997 when the U.S. Army Finance & Accounting office at Redstone Arsenal closed. Retirement didn’t slow him down, as he continued to work with various government contractors for nearly two decades, all while enjoying his passion for golf.
A devoted member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Charles lived his faith daily, serving as an example of integrity, kindness, and dedication in all aspects of his life.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Terry Harper; his brother, Larry (Shirley) of Kingsport, TN; his children, Lea Ann (Rick) Letson and Bart (Michelle) Harper; and his grandchildren, Benjamin Charles Letson, Tyler Richard Letson, Lindsey Nicole Harper, Katherine Lynn Harper, and Abbie Lane Harper.
Charles’ legacy is one of faithful service, love, and commitment to his family and community. A graveside service for family members will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery. Following the service, visitation will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
