Craig Martin Leavitt, 34, of Florence, Alabama passed away May
28, 2024 surrounded by family and friends. Martin was preceded
in death by his grandparents, Betty Jo and Gerald Hooper, Jane
and Jack Leavitt and Charles Mattson, Uncle James Edward
Leavitt, and nephew James Rickman Lane.
Martin is survived by his parents, Laura and Jerry Leavitt, sister
Morgan White (Collin), Maternal Grandmother Glenda Mattson
and Special Friend Becca Carden.
Martin attended the University of Alabama where he received his
BS degree in Geology. After finishing his undergraduate studies,
he obtained his Masters in Geospatial Science from the
University of North Alabama where he was a member of Pi Kappa
Phi Honor Society. Upon completion of his master’s degree he
moved to Charlotte, NC where he worked for ESRI, global market
leader in geographic information Systems. Martin loved his work
as a Senior Solutions Engineer at ESRI and developed many great
relationships with his coworkers and enjoyed helping his clients
for almost ten years.
Throughout his young adulthood, Martin balanced his pursuit of
outdoor adventure with his personal and professional life.
Throughout college, Martin spent his summers whitewater raft
guiding and kayaking on the Ocoee River in Southeast Tennessee.
This led to an opportunity of kayaking the Grand Canyon, the
highlight of Martin’s many adventurous pursuits. Although
whitewater was his first love, he had the fortune of a hobby-rich
life which included cycling, backpacking, skiing and a love for music. Martin often
shared with others that experiencing these activities with family
and friends created an enormous amount of joy in his life.
Martin is survived by many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and close
friends. When asked to describe Martin his family and friends
shared the following; Intentional, unyielding, determined,
thoughtful, adventurous, caring, genuine, kind, trustworthy,
grounded, methodical, tough, compassionate, gentle, clever,
humble, intelligent, empathetic, supportive, curious, resilient,
insightful, brave and witty.
A private ceremony for family will be held on June 8th. An open reception/visitation will be Sunday, June 9th from 1:00 – 2:30 PM at Pickett Place on Court in Florence, Al. A Celebration of Martin’s life will begin at 2:45 PM following the visitation. The family would like to thank Martin’s healthcare teams who were amazing throughout this whole journey. We are forever grateful for the care we received at St. Thomas, Duke, Clearview Cancer Center, UAB, Riverstone Naturopathic Health, Full Life Wellness, Enhabit Home Health, and NAMC.
