After a long, fruitful and purposed filled life of 97 years, Mary Nell Tally Sharpe realized the promises of her faith and entered life eternal on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Oak Tree Manor in Amory. A lady of class, a sterling personality and uncompromised character, Mary Nell was born on June 23, 1926 in Lee County to the late William Swanzee Tally and Nelle Kate Morgan Tally. She graduated from Mooreville High School in 1946, along with her future husband, Joseph B. Sharpe, whom she married March 23, 1946. Joe died on Jan. 11, 1981. Mary Nell lived most of her life in Lee County. She was a book keeper/clerk for many years with Dr. Roma Taylor and the late Dr. Tom Wesson, Sr. eventually retiring from MedServe at the age of 73. Mary Nell was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo and was much involved with all activities at the Church including the Church choir where her melodic alto voice blessed listeners there and in many other churches for 70 years. A pianist and organist, she loved music which was always an essential part of her life. A beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Granny revered her family and enjoyed being with them- always ready for the next family gathering. Mary Nell will long be remembered for her generous smile, her winning ways, her independence and her Christ-like love for all people.
Mary Nell is survived by her daughters, Judy Sharpe Williams (Stanley) of Tupelo, and Pam Sharpe Commander of Brandon; two grandchildren, Stan Williams, Jr. (Kelly) of Mooreville, and Camille Williams Powell (Walker) of Tupelo; eight great-grandchildren, Miranda, Emmi, Celia, Weston, Mallie, Hughes, Joseph, Anna Bishop. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nelle Tally and her siblings, Bud Tally, Helen Wheeler, and Martha Ann Tally.
