James (Jimmy) Boyd passed away July 1, 2023, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. He was born in Wrigley, Tennessee on October 31, 1924, to the late Robert and Hazel (Peeler) Boyd. He was a Marine during World War II where he served with Carlson’s Raiders in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to Hickman County and married Jean Cochran Boyd. James ran Boyd’s Grocery in Lyles for twenty-seven years before moving to Winchester. He loved to work and in his spare time enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling, creating stained glass, Christmas decorating, and yard work. James was a faithful member of the Winchester Church of Christ, a member of the 158 Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Shriners, and the Winchester Eastern Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Jean; sisters, Robbie Patton and Laura Elizabeth Speight; son, Glenn Boyd; and grandson, Jayme Church. James is survived by his daughter, Barbara Church Coffelt (William) of Estill Springs; grandsons, Cary Carter Church of Winchester, and Greg Boyd (Sherry) of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Jena, Jess, and Josh Church of Winchester, Reese and Erin Church of Cleveland, and Scott and Alaina Boyd of North Carolina; and great-great-grandchildren, Ivey, Jameson, and Abel Church of Winchester. Visitation will be from 1-4:30 pm on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 4:30 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Joseph Horton officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin County Christian Education Fund (Andy Groves) or Project Unify (Cody Michael, (931-247-9572).
