Funeral services for Zelma “Nannie” Carr, age 98 of Ashland, will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Richard East and Bro. Bill Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Carr passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Clay County Hospital. Mrs. Carr was lifelong resident of Clay County and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She attended New Prospect when it was a school and a church, and was very influential to her family. She was the family babysitter, raising not only her children but her grandchildren as well. Nannie was as independent as they came, and loved having company come to her house to visit. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, and her flowers beds.
Mrs. Carr is survived by two daughters: Nelda Jo Denney(Billy) and Darline Carr; one son, Terrell Carr (Susie), all of Ashland; 5 grandchildren: Shane Carr(Rhonda), Jason Carr(Yvette), Duane Denney(Shauna), Ryan Denney(Leann) and Chris Carr(Amy); 12 great-grandchildren: Bethany McVey(Jonathan), Eric Carr(Katie), Cullen Carr, Jameson Carr, Taylor Denney(Allison), Trey Denney(Kendall), Hunter Denney, Tanner Denney, Jessica Maddox(Derek), Lesli Turner, Aubrie Daniels, and Alex Daniels; 7 great-great-grandchildren: Libby Ann McVey, Conner and Cooper Maddox, Cade, Clay and Cole Denney, and Henry Denney; one special sister in law, Bobbie Carr of Ashland; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Lee Smith and Viola Powell Smith; her husband, Winford Carr; her son, Steven Lee Carr; one sister, Evelyn Wheeles; and her step-mother, Ada Smith.
Pallbearers will be Shane Carr, Jason Carr, Duane Denney, Ryan Denney, Chris Carr, and Larry Wheeles.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her Great-Grandchildren.
Her visitation will take place on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and up until service time at 2:00 P.M.
